Why do air compressors need air filters?

  • click to rate

Air compressors are widely used in life, mainly because compressed air can provide a lot of kinetic energy. Since the air is to be compressed, a large amount of air needs to be drawn into the air compressor. If there is noair compressor air filter  to filter the incoming air, it will cause great damage to the air compressor.

The air filter of the air compressor is mainly to remove dust particles in the air to prevent the dust from affecting the balance of the compressor impeller. Dust has three major hazards to high-speed pneumatic equipment:

    (1) Zoom. Small particles of dust form solid scaling inside the equipment, affecting the airflow movement and reducing the operating efficiency of the equipment

    (2) Wear. Large particles of dust (particle size ≥ 5, um) hit the blades and airflow channels, causing surface wear.

    (3) Corrosion. Corrosive dust can cause chemical corrosion of equipment. In petrochemical plants, where aerodynamic equipment must operate year-round, downtime can mean downtime. In order to ensure its trouble-free and efficient operation and reduce the number of downtimes and maintenance workload, it is necessary to install an air filter with excellent performance at the air inlet to reduce the damage of dust to the equipment. The filtering effect of the air filter directly affects the long-term operation of the air compressor.
