A member of the Indian women cricket team reported that she was approached to fix matches
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) filed a first information report (FIR) against two persons. They allegedly approached a member of the women’s cricket team to fix a match with a huge offer. The FIR was filed at Ashok Nagar Police Station.
According to reports, the two individuals were named Rakesh Bafna and Jitender Kothari. The incident took place in February this year. It was ahead of the ODI home series against England. The cricketer was approached during her recovery sessions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The chief of the BCCI ACU refused to name the cricketer who reported about the fixing. ‘She is India cricketer and an international cricketer so the ICC conducted an inquiry into it. The ICC warned the person who made the approach and informed us and acknowledged that the cricketer has done the right thing by reporting the approach’.
‘Today, we have got an FIR registered against two people in Bengaluru. The FIR pertains to an approach that was made to one of the women cricketers of the team. She reported the approach to us and even recorded the conversation she had with one of the accused over the telephone’, BCCI ACU chief Ajit Singh said.
Over the years, there had been reported fixing scandals. It had been recorded in men’s cricket. The incident has found that women’s cricket can also be vulnerable to this type of corruption.
