Players of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (BDSP) will finally be able to get the mysterious Pokémon Shaymin, at least legally, as mysterious gifts containing Oak's letter will soon be distributed in-game. While Shaymin was included in the game code when Pokemon BDSP was released last year, encountering it requires players to first receive Oak's Letter through the event. The only other way to find and catch Shaymin early is to exploit a glitch in the game.

In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the legendary Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon could only be obtained by reaching the Flower Paradise, and only after the player accepted the event-only item Oak's Letter. Unfortunately, Oak's Letter was never distributed in the original, only available in Pokémon Platinum, so players of the first two titles can only get Shaymin by using cheat codes. Likewise, Darkrai is another Pokémon in Diamond and Pearl that requires an event-only item to encounter but ends up being distributed only in Platinum. Additionally, Darkrai is also in the Pokémon BDSP and getting it remains the same, so players will need to wait for future events to have a chance to grab it.

Pokémon BDSP publisher The Pokémon Company announced during its latest Pokémon Presents event that players will soon receive Oak's Letter as a mystery gift that will give them a chance to meet and catch the mythical Pokémon Shaymin. According to the announcement, players will need at least two hours of gameplay to unlock the game's mystery gift feature, and an internet connection is required to receive gifts containing Oak's Letter. Players also need to enter the game's Hall of Fame and obtain a National Pokédex. Also, only one Shaymin can be captured per saved data. There are Cheap BDSP Items for sale.

Shaymin also appeared in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, influencing the beginning of Floaroma Town. Since the new game is set in the Hisui region, an ancient version from Diamond and Pearl and its aforementioned remake of the Sinnoh region, it's no surprise that mythical Pokémon will be in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
