An excellent set-up for Slayer that OSRS GP is relatively inexpensive is to utilize a Slayer Helm, or Neitznot (sp?) Helm until you have the slayer helm Amulet of Glory, Fighter Torso (can easily be acquired within a couple of hours) Torag's platelegs, Verac's Plateskirt , if you'll use prayer for your work as it gives the prayer bonus, Whip/Dragon Scimitar, Dragon Defender, and Dragon Boots as well as Obsidian Cape (unless you own an afghan cape or a skillcape).
Keep in mind that this is just an idea for equipment and you are able to switch things to a different level. For instance, you could switch your defender out for an Obsidian shield when you think you require an extra boost in defense, and you can always make use of dragon platelegs if you do not wish to repair the armor of your barrow since it degrades during combat.
If you don't meet the requirements of the quest for the helms, do them. If you are planning to undertake any kind of slaying, you must complete your Smoking Kills quest as soon as you are able. Do not be afraid to try out various methods and find what you like best.
The entire set-up will cost around 2-2.5M and is a great all-around setup to slay. Remember to also use some of that cash to buy super sets (Super Strength/Attack/Defence potions) that you should be using on ALL your slayer tasks.
It may seem like you're spending an amount of money at first, but it can speed up your work significantly and is worth the cost as you'll be benefiting from your slayer drops or clue scrolls in the end.
