It is extremely frustrating when you try to install your Netgear router via the Nighthawk app but suddenly the internet not connected error pops up on the screen. You turn on your Netgear WiFi router, make all cable connections, open the Nighthawk app, and you get nothing but the annoying error. What the hell?

Why is not your internet connected? A bunch of different things can be the culprit. At times, the solution is simple – perhaps your Netgear WiFi router is outdated or simply needs a quick reboot. However, sometimes, it is a bit complicated. That's why we have put together a troubleshooting guide to help you resolve the internet not connected error during the Netgear router setup process via the Nighthawk app. Let's get the ball rolling.

Troubleshooting Tips for Internet Not Connected Error

    Easy Fixes

    1. Restart Your Device

This might seem quite too obvious, but the basic thing you should do is restart your device. Restarting your device gives the operating system a chance to tidy things up and try again if it is not recognizing the network or frozen.

    2. Power Cycle Your Network

The next troubleshooting step is to power cycle your network. In order to power cycle your router's network, all you have to do is:

    • Shut down or turn off all devices that are connected to your network.

    • Wait for a few minutes.

    • Now, turn on your modem first and allow it to boot up properly.

    • After that, power on your Netgear Nighthawk WiFi router.

    • Turn on all your wireless and wired devices connected to your WiFi network.

Once done with the power cycling, try again to perform the Netgear Nighthawk setup using the router app.

    Advanced Fixes

    1. Update Your Router Firmware

You may be seeing 'no internet connected' error due to an outdated router that doesn't match the latest wireless standards. Therefore, check the firmware version on your Netgear Nighthawk WiFi router.

If it is outdated, download and install the most recent version of firmware on your Netgear router.

    2. Try a Different Ethernet Cable

Whether you are performing a Netgear Nighthawk X6 setup or other router's model setup, you need to connect your router to the modem via an Ethernet cable. On the off chance if you have an extra Ethernet cable, replace it with the one that is currently plugged into your router and modem and see if it makes a difference.

Wires can also be damaged by pets. So, ensure that your mouse or dog is not chewing on it.

    3. Reset Your Router (aka Nuclear Option)

Tried everything else to no avail? Well, it's time to reset your Netgear router to the default factory settings. It could be the fix you need to rectify the internet connectivity issues once and for all.

This is quite a big step to take because it will restore the router the way it was when you first unpacked it, wiping the slate clean. The Netgear Nighthawk router reset process will delete your password and assign a default one. Here's how to factory reset your Netgear router:

    • Turn on your router.

    • Press and hold the Reset button on it.

Done! Now, you need to set up your Netgear router using the Nighthawk app again just like new.
