Nothing is more thrilling than seeing the country on an overlanding adventure. You, your friends and or family, and a well-equipped vehicle with custom overland van modifications are all it takes to see and experience the sights and wonders of the open road. Well, that and this essential gear:

    1.     Emergency Kit

Stuff happens and you need to be prepared with a solid, up-to-date first aid kit packed with all the necessities for handling injuries and illnesses. You’ll also want a fire extinguisher, flares, and other similar items for handling an emergency with your vehicle. Hopefully you never have to use this stuff, but it needs to be freshened up every time you leave and stored in an easily accessible spot so you have what you need if you need it.

    2.     Food

Duh. Hopefully we didn’t need to tell you that you’ll need food on your adventure. But it’s worth mentioning that you can eat well on the road if you have a bit of gear like a portable fridge and good cooking gear. A fridge allows you to bring along a bit of fresh stuff that will improve your diet and your disposition and don’t be afraid to do some genuine cooking out on the road.

    3.     Comforts

Overlanding is going to get old really fast if you’re uncomfortable. Make comfy sleeping arrangements a priority, not an afterthought. You must rest in order to travel safely and enjoy your journey. You’ll also want to consider bringing along tables, chairs, and other comfort items that make the long, glorious evenings under the stars moments where you can linger longer in ease.

    4.     Tools

Again, stuff happens and you’re going to need to fix it. And to do that, you’re going to need some tools and some skills. Tools are heavy and bulky, so only bring what you’ll need.

    5.     A Sense of Adventure

Overlanding is a genuine adventure. You really can’t anticipate what you’ll see or experience when on an overland journey. Will you see the most brilliant sunset of your life? Will you have to fix a flat tire in the dark on a steep trail? Will you discover how tasty fresh fish tastes when grilled moments after it’s caught? Will you learn to love sleeping under the stars to the sounds of the forest at night? Will you encounter the biggest bug you’ve ever seen or learn that your van is too heavy to drive on the sand? Overlanding is all that and so much more; a sense of adventure will see you through it all.

    Get out there!
