Adding drapery is a sure-fire way of adding a touch of luxury to any interior design scheme. Dressing your windows can give any space a new lease of life and is an excellent way to refresh your rooms without the need to replace more expensive items such as flooring or furniture. As well as giving a high-end finish to your decorating scheme, curtains are also a practical addition to a room and can provide benefits such as added privacy, insulation and protection against the elements depending on the type of curtaining you choose.

Another great benefit of adding curtains to your home is that they are usually very simple to install. Eyelet curtains often require a simple curtain rod or pole whilst other styles such as pencil or pinch pleat curtains may require a curtain track. To some installing a curtain track with track gliders, can seem like a daunting task. However, this is far from the truth.

Gliders allow your curtains to be drawn seamlessly from one end of the curtain track to the other. Depending on the style of track or curtains you choose gliders can be located on the front, back or bottom of the curtain track. Wherever the gliders on your chosen track are located, they are usually hidden from sight once the curtains have been hung.

Curtain tracks have increased in popularity in recent years. Due to curtain tracks with gliders having a minimalist profile they are usually an excellent choice for contemporary spaces. Tracks with gliders can also be manipulated in order to fit more unusual spaces.

If you’re looking for information on how to install curtain track gliders below is a step by step guide which should make installation simple and stress-free.

    Step 1

Once your curtain track has been securely fixed to the wall begin by removing the track end (sometimes called the stop end depending on the stockist or track manufacturer).

    Step 2

Next prepare your gliders ready to attach to the track. You will have received the gliders with your chosen track. However, depending on the length of your track or the length and intended fullness of your curtains you may need to purchase additional gliders in order to create your desired end result. A general rule of thumb when hanging curtains using curtain track gliders is to position the gliders around 8 to 10 centimetres apart, along the entire width of the curtain. Positioning the gliders in this way should ensure your chosen curtains hang neatly along the track. Having ample gliders will also reduce the risk of curtains sagging, which is especially important when working with heavier types of fabric. A good way of spacing your gliders and ensuring you have enough prior to adding them to your curtain track is to lay your curtains on the floor or any flat surface. You can then place the gliders just above the curtains allowing you to space them out evenly and count the number of gliders needed along your track.

    Step 3

Next simply insert your chosen number of gliders into the glider channel. When inserting the individual gliders be sure not to twist or damage any part of the track as doing so could jam the glider channel and affect the way the gliders travel along the track.

    Step 4

Once you have inserted your gliders into the glider channel it’s time to replace the track end (or stop end) of the track to ensure your gliders cannot travel past the end of the track.

And that’s it, you’ve just installed curtain track gliders onto your curtain track and are now ready to hang the curtains of your choice. When attaching your curtains to the gliders be sure to stay safe and use a sturdy ladder and assistant whenever possible.
