10 Wrong Answers to Common IT Recruiters Questions: Do You Know

  • Staffing agencies have seen an unprecedented boost in popularity due to the current economic stagnation. They offer pre-screened, pre-qualified staff with no long-term commitment required; and, that is exactly what employers need. There is no shortage of qualified workers; and, you don't have to spend time and money sifting through resumes to find them.

Employers are typically delighted to hand over the recruitment process to an outside agency. They are literally swamped with resumes. The time and money it takes to go through them and the resulting interviews can seriously disrupt other critical duties.

Temporary agencies have been popular during economic downturns since the first one was started in 1946. Now, they are even more popular because they offer more types of workers than ever. Not only administrative staff and general labor are available, but specialists are as well. Qualified professionals like medical and legal staff can be found on short notice.

With our economic future unsure, making a commitment to additional staff can be daunting. With an agency, staff can be brought on as temporary, temp-to-perm, long and short-term contract, or as direct hire. That can be a big relief. Workers can be evaluated on the job while economic stability is waited out. There are a variety of services available to painlessly grow business without the risk associated hiring a regular employee.

Staffing agencies are the experts. According to the Houston Chronicle, "Employees of staffing agencies generally have a higher level of expertise related to job knowledge, employment trends and recruitment practices by virtue of continuous placement of employees." This expertise is often unmatched within HR departments and is particularly useful in specialized fields. Staffing agencies can manage the entire employment process, freeing up both financial and human resources.

In the past, it was only larger corporations that turned to staffing agencies for help. There was a preconceived notion that small businesses could not afford temporary staff rates. It is simply not true. Rather than taking a chance on hiring full-time employees, a small business can greatly benefit from temporary staff. You can't compete with a skeleton staff; and, you don't have to. Plus, you can avoid the costs associated with pre-employment testing, background checks, and drug screening. Atlanta Medical Recruiter Gail Abelman of Staffing Perfection says, "The companies we staff save thousands of dollars every year by eliminating many recruitment fees from their budget."

As the economy gets stronger, my prediction is that staffing agencies will continue to thrive. They have stepped up to the plate in times of need and exceeded expectations. They have carved out a niche that goes far beyond their historic role. It is no longer just about finding a secretary to fill in during a regular employee's vacation or short leave. They provide a practical service that practically every business can benefit from.

Staffing agencies are popular because they are an immediate solution and a forward strategy. Employers can test the waters in a time and cost-effective manner, before fully committing to a larger staff. In the meantime, it's business as usual.

Medical staffing agencies across the country seem to be agreeing on a unique method to help relieve the stress associated with burnout in their employees, and many of these methods are not only cost-effective but helps promote a positive environment and increase revenue at the same time.

It is not a secret that staff has a high rate of burnout among staff members, yet we expect our staff to have a high quality of providing patient care and at the same time be a positive representative to our staffing agency.

Burnout has been linked to the expectations placed on the employee that is working at a facility, working many hours, working in multiple locations, being seen as the new person, given full workloads because you are the temp and I can go on and on. A staffing agency cannot control what goes on in the hospitals or the amount of work given to a staffing agency employee. We are however able to control the burnout among our staff by working on encouraging outcomes and avoid burning out by taking a proactive approach in appreciating out staff.

While hospitals have huge stresses tied into outcomes and expectations within those outcomes, our staff often are neglected and expected to just do the job. Yet, our staffing agency employees have the added stress of going to a new placed and not understanding the culture or possible having to learn new protocols and computer entry methods. This entire process coupled with producing positive outcomes and keeping patients safe adds tremendous pressure on any medical staffing member.

As owners of our medical staffing agency encouraging our staff and providing constant positive feedback as well as rewards help to boost the moral and the attitude when they are entering a new account.

Here are some things medical staffing agencies have done to foster a less stress for their employees.

When employees are working for various accounts, while on break or lunch give them an art or activities that they can do and turn in to qualify to earn a prize for the best drawing or picture. This activity can be done while on break or during lunch.

You can partner with creative writing courses that employees can use to help focus energy to other activities. This kind of action helps clear the mind and focus on something other than the job or the stress for the day.

Give them instructions with a CD or online meditation techniques to learn how to use meditation techniques to be able to relax and stay calm during working hours. This is especially helpful during a frantically busy day.

Relaxation is one key component in reducing stress and reduce burnout. Reducing burnout will help you in two keys ways.

One, it reducing sick calls, missed work and helps your company to be seen a value proposition. This is done by the positive attitude of your employees. Happy employees equal more calls to cover shifts.

Second, the byproduct of a focused and less stressed employee means that employee is IT staffing agencies more willing to work and will create more revenue and help your company grow. Similar programs have been instituted in major hospitals with amazing results.

Some hospitals have even created a meditation room, unfortunately that will be difficult to do as a medical staffing agency. What you can do is create the culture of focusing on reducing stress. Employees at first may not understand, but those that do grasp and use this technique will be those employees that will help your business grow.
