A strong site navigation is going to be important to any website. It will make it easier for the right visitors to find the information they need on your website, without having to hunt around and get frustrated along the way. It can also help with some of your search engine indexing and will give you some of the higher ranking that you desire. Some of the ways that you can improve your website navigation include:

    # Keep it consistent: Consistent navigation promotes the ease of use and will make it more likely that your visitors will find the relevant information that they need. If your navigation changes from one page to another, visitors will find it difficult to orient themselves each time.

    # Divide the categories clearly:  If your navigation contains multiple categories or sections, then you need to make sure that they are easily defined. Keep the categories separate from the sub-categories to make this easier.

    # Use clickable links: When you plan to use more than one categorical division in the navigation, all of the elements that are part of the heading should be clickable links. This is true even when you use some of the drop-down meus.

    # Use accurate navigation titles: Visitors should have a good idea of what they will find on one of the pages of your website before they click on a link. This is easily don’t if you take a few minutes to give the page heading an easy to understand name. Do not use misleading text or cryptic options because this will just lead to frustration.

    # All clickable images need alt text: This is true of each image, but the most important if you use an image to link to another page on the website. You need to make sure that the alt attribute has a descriptive text. This will help everyone know more about the link, no matter how they view the site.

    # Ensure the search feature is working: if you utilize an in-site search feature, the search results page needs to produce the relevant results. It needs to also compensate for misspelled words or go with similar products if you do not have one.

Navigation is important when it comes to your website. If your customers are not able to find their way around the website, they will get frustrated and choose to go with another competitor for what they need. If you are worried about the navigation of your website, then a website designer may be the best option for you. They will be able to take a look at the navigation and ensure that it works well for you.
