My Garage Door Won't Open, Now What?

This is a common question for professional garage door repair companies. It seems to happen almost always when most people are about to leave for work or when they return home from a long day. I suppose being locked out of the garage is preferable to the other two options. If you are experiencing this issue, you do have options!

There are several things you can look for that may provide an immediate solution to the problem. To begin, ensure that the garage door opener is receiving power. If it isn't, there are two easy things to look for.

Many garages have GFCI plug systems, and all of the outlets are on the same circuit. When you've found the GFCI plug, try pressing the reset button. If this does not work, inspect your circuit breakers. You may have overloaded the breaker because many people run freezers, refrigerators, tools, and exercise equipment in the garage.

If neither of these options solves the problem and you have confirmed that the garage door opener is not working, disconnect the garage door opener from the garage door. Pulling on the emergency release rope attached to the trolley on the garage door opener rail accomplishes this.

You should be able to open the door freely after disengaging the opener. If you determine that the opener is not the source of the problem, your options become less appealing.

After you've ruled out the opener, you'll need to look at the garage door itself. Take a few moments to inspect the garage door to see if there is anything loose or broken. Look for rollers that have come off the track, cables that have come loose from their pulleys, and broken springs.

If you find one of these issues, you must determine whether your do-it-yourself skills will allow you to make the necessary repairs quickly. Make sure you take the necessary time to determine the safety of making the repair yourself before you begin.

Cables and springs are subjected to tremendous amounts of pressure in order to counterbalance the weight of the door and can cause serious injury if not handled with the proper tools and expertise.

If you determine that the repair is beyond your abilities, you should be aware that there are numerous service companies available to assist you with your problem as soon as possible. An experienced repair technician with the right tools and parts can complete most garage repairs in under thirty minutes. Contact Garage Door Repair Cheyenne
