NBA scouts digest best, worst of Trae Young's summer league per

We watched Trae Young’s Hawks play nine games within the last fourteen days. Young himself played three games each in Utah and Las Vegas, were built with a fourth in Vegas through which he NBA Live Mobile Coins hurt his quad and played only nine minutes and sat for Atlanta’s final two games for rest.
The final output: 15.1 points per game on 30.three percent shooting, 27.three percent shooting from your 3-point line, 5.7 assists and 3.7 turnovers per game.

A couple of talent evaluators, one through the West and one on the East, spoke with SN in what they saw from different facets of Young’s game september.
Shooting
Young was terrible in Utah, shooting 3-for-24 on the 3-point line and 12-for-52 through the field. That improved (12-for-32 from your 3-point line, 18-for-47 on the field) in the event the Hawks shifted to Las Vegas, but Young still had his struggles finishing shots inside paint and was just so-so from your arc.
East scout: “I such as shot release. I like the power to get a bit space and find that shot off. That’s something we know they have. But I bother about his power to finish inside the paint. When he climbs into the lane and in time breaks down a defense, he really wants to pass. I would not have access to let that function as the start of Trae’s summer. You could tell it wore on him. But I such as fact that they bounced in Vegas and was a lot more himself.”
Playmaking
Young averaged 8.7 assists at Oklahoma, but he previously had a penchant for turnovers, too (5.2 per game). That comes using the kind of defenses he saw, but he's going to need to take better care with the ball from the NBA.
East scout: “He has such terrific vision. He sees the bottom very, well. His capacity to make full-court passes, to capture defenses napping — in my experience that is the foundation his game, in excess of his scoring. If they put good shooters around him, and I such as Omari Spellman pick for that reason, he is planning to create a large amount of open shots for his teammates.”
West scout: “He was forcing things an excessive amount of, knowning that might function as the fact which he was trying to produce an impression. But he forced a lot of passes into places high was not enough room. I don’t believe will certainly be a long-term problem, but they have to get acquainted with his personnel, certainly.
“If you might be throwing a pocket pass with a big guy inside the lane, you should know whether or not the guy has got the hands to hook and finish. He appears to think everyone in existence has Jerry Rice’s hands. But he'll almost certainly learn his teammates’ pros and cons.”
Pick-and-roll
Summer league is frequently heavy on pick-and-roll, as teams’ offensive playbooks are incredibly limited. Young was frequently operating out in the pick-and-roll, with varying examples of success.
East scout: “He isn't an automatic on the subject of taking advantage on the mismatches as soon as the switch. He would obtain a big guy on him and even take a 3 too often. You can have a step-back 3 that has a big guy for you, nevertheless, you better make that shot.
“Obviously, he would not make some of them, and for that reason he’s reached know that when his shot isn't falling, drive the ball.”
West scout: “You know, I don’t expect that they're going to run a wide range of pick-and-roll, although I think they have got pretty good personnel because of it. Just have a look at (new head coach) Lloyd Pierce. He is from Philadelphia. They usually are not a pick-and-roll team (the Sixers ranked 30th in PNR frequency last season, at 10.8 percent of these plays). Travis Schlenk (the group’s GM) got their start in Golden State, and also the Warriors don’t run pick-and-roll a great deal (29th, at 10.9 percent).
“I think Trae can run the pick-and-roll, but he’d be considerably better in the ball-movement offense as with Philly or perhaps in Golden State. I am unclear how he runs the play is about to matter.”
Defense
Young’s defense was one on the main concerns about his game heading in the NBA Draft, and summer league would not do much to contain that concern.
East scout: “They’re planning to give up a lot of points in Atlanta. I mean, you will get by Trae even using a pretty soft screen. He just never had to master to fight through those, and I didn't see anything to produce me think they have made great strides on that.
“You’d better use a shot-blocker behind him, and in addition they could rely on Dewayne Dedmon. And if you happen to be going to own John Collins and Omari Spellman at the start, neither is often a great defensive player, and in addition they’re planning to be having problems on that end.”
West scout: “I am ready to give him the benefit in the doubt. He didn’t show anything great defensively september, but he can need to get in to a system and learn it and do his job. They’re not about to ask him to do an excessive amount of on that end.
“We spoken with him during pre-draft (the Chicago combine in May), and the man told us straight up that they was not a great defender at Oklahoma last year when he was not inspired to be.
